Livelihood Programme

The majority of people in the CHT live in poverty and face difficulties to earn sufficient income to support themselves and their families. We support communities to develop and diversify their livelihoods activities, so they can increase and secure their incomes, and improve their quality of life. Since our establishment we have been implementing projects under Livelihood programs are as bellows-

Second Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project (CHTRDP-II)

For the period, 24 December 2013 to 23 December 2018, TUS was engaged in partnership with Asian Development Bank and Government of Bangladesh(GOB) to implement Second Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project toward achieving purpose to increase economic opportunities for rural poor, especially women, vulnerable groups and indigenous people’s communities through construction of feeder roads including appurtenant structures.

Trinamul Unnayan Sangstha joint ventures in association with Assistance for the Livelihood of the Origins (ALO), Kabidang, Khagrapur Mahila Kalyan Samity (KMKS) and Zabarang Kalyan Samity (ZKS) have been implementing the project covering 200 villages at whole Upazilas in Khagrachari Districts.

Livelihood Micro Grant Support Project

For the period, 20 April 2016 to 31 October 2016, TUS was engaged in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility (CHTDF), to implement Livelihood Micro Grant Support Project toward achieving purpose to improve livelihoods of VCF dependent household in Mong Circle areas of CHT.

Through this project, TUS covered 10 Village Common Forest areas at 07 Unions- Kamal chari, Bhaibon Chara, Latiban, Taindong, Hapachari, Sindukchari and Maisechari uninion in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila, Panchari, Matiranga, Guimara and Mahalchari Upazila.

Community Action on Natural Resource Management for Decent Living

For the period, 01 January 2009 to 31 March 2017, TUS was engaged in partnership with Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), to implement the Community Action on Natural Resource Management for Decent Living Project toward achieving purpose to strengthen local communities’ control over natural resources by creating livelihoods opportunities.

Through this project, TUS covered 20 villages at Panchari and Khagrachari sadar upazila in Khagrachari District. Since then, it has been facilitated communities to implement integrated income generating projects in community level. The project helps the growers make use of local natural resources and traditional knowledge. The project was phased out in July 31, 2013 and the project was redesigned naming “Coherent Action on Natural socio-economic Resources for Decent Livelihood” with a focus on unique initiatives in NRM sector.

Community Empowerment and Economic Development Project

For the period, 01 April 2005 to 30 September 2013, TUS was engaged in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility (CHTDF), to implement the Community Empowerment and Economic Development Project toward achieving purpose to empower communities so they can manage their own development and welfare.

Through this project, TUS covered 184 Villages or Paras at 05 Unions- Khagrachari sadar, Kamalchari, Golabari, Perachara and Bhaibonchara in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila.

It’s an integrated development project in Khagrachari and TUS provided technical supports to form and run of 184 ‘Para Development Committees’ (PDCs), village-based organisations responsible for leading development activities in their communities.  In 74 villages, TUS also works with ‘Para Nari Development Groups (PNDGs)’ development committees managed by women.

Community Empowerment Project

For the period, 01 July 2010 to 30 September 2013: TUS was engaged in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility (CHTDF), to implement the Community Empowerment Project toward achieving purpose to empower communities so they can manage their own development and welfare.

Through this project, TUS covered 144 Villages or Paras at 03 Unions – Bormachari, Dulyatali and Laxmichari sadar in Laxmichari upazila.

It’s an integrated development project and TUS provided technical supports to form and run of 144 ‘Para Development Committees’ (PDCs), village-based organisations responsible for leading development activities in their communities.  In 40 villages, TUS also works with ‘Para Nari Development Groups (PNDGs)’ development committees managed by women.

Secured Livelihood Right Project

For the period, 01 October 2007 to 30 September 2015, TUS was engaged in partnership with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), Bangladesh, by placing skilled foreign volunteer at organisation level for organisational capacity building. Through this process VSOB conducted organisational need assessment to identify organisational needs and developing areas for the future. In this consequence, VSOB launched a project namely “Secure Livelihood Rights (SLR)” to enhance sustainable livelihood rights at community level in Khagrachari district in 2013. To guide and look after the project operations VSOB placed a skilled volunteer in TUS.

Through this project, TUS covered 4 Villages or Paras at 02 Unions at Kamalchari in Khagrachari sadar upazila and Bormachari in Laxmichari upazila.

Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project(CHTRDP)-Community Development component (Phase-1).

For the period, 1 July 2005 to 30 June 2009, TUS was engaged in partnership with Asian Development Bank(ADB) and Government of Bangladesh(GOB), to implement the Chittagong Hill Tracts Rural Development Project (CHTRDP)-Phase-1  toward achieving purpose ‘to reduce the incidence of absolute poverty amongst rural communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts’

Through this project, TUS covered 17 unions at Dighinala, Khagrachari sadar, Laxmichari, Matiranga and Panchari Upazilas in Khagrachari Districts.
