Destruction of the environment has serious implications for people’s lives and livelihoods, including their ability to earn incomes, and grow sufficient food for themselves and their families. We work together with communities, encouraging sustainable natural resource management practices, promoting traditional knowledge, traditional village common forest or mouza forest systems, helping them to protect their natural resources and environment, and improve their futures. Enhancing climate resiliency and strengthening food security through traditional knowledge
For the period, 01 November 2016 to 31 October 2017, TUS was engaged in partnership with Asia Indigenous Peoples Pack (AIPP), to implement Enhancing climate resiliency and strengthening food security through traditional knowledge toward achieving goal strengthening Indigenous knowledge and innovations for climate resilient sustainable livelihood in CHTs.
The project will cover 10 villages in Dighinala and Khagrachari sadar Upazilas of Khagrachari hill District.
Preservation and Promotion of Varieties of Traditional Crops
For the period, 01 November 2015 to 31 October 2017, TUS was engaged in partnership with IPAF-IFAD, to implement Enhancing climate resiliency and strengthening food security through traditional knowledge toward achieving goal to promote and preserve the traditional varieties natural crops and vegetables the indigenous people traditionally accustomed to use in their daily lives and they were in sound health and mind.
The project will cover 10 villages at Shreebordi Upazila in Sherpur District.
Protection and Promotion of Natural Resource Management systems in CHT
For the period, 1 January 2007 to 30 June 2017, TUS was engaged in partnership with MISEREOR, to implement the 'Protection and Promotion of Natural Resource Management Systems in the Chittagong Hill Tracts' (PPNRM) project toward achieving purpose to revive and strengthen social ownership over natural resources through the promotion of indigenous agro-forestry practices.
Since then TUS has been facilitating communities to use the indigenous practices of local communities to revive and strengthen traditional natural resource management systems in 10 Villages or Paras at Kabakhali union in Dighinala Upazila and at Golabari Unions in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila.
Support implementation of CHT Watershed Co-Management Activity
For the period, 01 April 2015 to 30 September 2016, TUS was engaged in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility (CHTDF), to implement CHT Watershed Co-Management Activity in Mong Circle Areas
toward achieving purpose to assist communities in strengthening/establishing community based/co-management organizations/groups towards sustainable management of local natural resources (VCFs and streams) and to support the development of capacities and skills of poor and vulnerable communities towards sustainable income opportunities.
Through this project, TUS covered 35 villages und 10 Village Common Forest areas at 07 Unions- Kamal chari, Bhaibon Chara, Latiban, Taindong, Hapachari, Sindukchari and Maisechari uninion in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila, Panchari, Matiranga, Guimara and Mahalchari Upazila.
Environment protection: Village Common Forest Management
For the period, 1 August 2014 to 31 July 2015, TUS was engaged in partnership with MISEREOR, to implement the Environment protection: Village Common Forest Management toward achieving purpose to uphold and sustain the VCF initiative undertaken by CHTDF at Komolchari union through ensuring community engagement.
Through this project, TUS covered 05 Villages or Paras at Kamalchari Union in Khagrachari sadar Upazila.
Advocacy Programme for the Protection of People’s Rights over Common Property Resources
For the period, 1 August 2003 to 31 July 2005, TUS was engaged in partnership with BARCIK-MISEREOR to implement the Advocacy Programme for the Protection of People’s Rights over Common Property Resources toward achieving purpose to promote the protection of sovereign rights for communities in Bangladesh over common property resources.
Through this project, TUS covered 01 village at Voirupha, Dighinala, Khagrachari.
